The Bathhouse Row area is a National Historic Landmark District containing the grandest collection of bathhouses in North America. The district contains many outstanding examples of Gilded Age architecture, including its most famous building: Fordyce Bathhouse.

Originally established by Congress as Hot Springs Reservation in 1832 and later becoming a national park in 1921, the oldest protected area of the National Park System has long been known for its thermal springs.
