Kirkwood Ski Resort has 87 marked trails, 2,000 feet of vertical drop, and 2,300 skiable acres. For those who easily get bored, there might not be enough terrain to support a week-long trip, but Kirkwood Resort is definitely an excellent 2 to 3-day trip. Daytime food options are somewhat limited with a cafeteria, grill, a coffee shop/bakery, and a couple of restaurants and bars.
Three amazing alpine lakes lie in close proximity to Kirkwood: Caples Lake, Silver Lake, and Kirkwood Lake. Caples Lake, located 4 miles east of Kirkwood, and Silver Lake, located 8 miles southwest of Kirkwood, provide beach access, boat launches, and picnic areas, as well as boat/kayak rentals, fishing, and swimming. Kirkwood Lake is located just across State Route 88 and is smaller than the other two lakes, but still good for an afternoon dip to cool down.
During the summer, Kirkwood offers foot-powered activities: hiking, biking, and disc golfing. At Kirkwood Mountain Park you can choose from a network of trails leading through spectacular terrain with mountain views. The area surrounding Kirkwood offers many excellent day-hike opportunities.
