Few places on earth are able to live up to their own mythology, but Monterey is an exception. Nothing can prepare you for the jaw-dropping beauty along Monterey's fabled coast and village-like walkways. Find inspiration by visiting nearby Carmel-by-the-Sea or iconic local attractions including Cannery Row, Old Fisherman's Wharf, and the Monterey Bay Aquarium.
Rent a kayak or take a guided kayak tour for a close-up view of Monterey Bay. Kayaks can be rented from locations on Cannery Row or near Old Fisherman's Wharf, and they are a great way to change your perspective on the Monterey seashore allowing you to get closer to otters, birds, seals, sea lions, and even the tops of kelp forests.
The Monterey Bay Coastal Recreation Trail on Main Street is a great way to use "green" transportation between Cannery Row and Old Fisherman's Wharf, and the trail is used by runners and walkers, bikers, and in-line skaters. There are also bikes and 4-person, pedal-powered surreys in Portola Plaza near Fisherman's Wharf and in Cannery Row.
