Civic Center Park is the biggest park in Palm Desert and has tennis courts, sports fields, picnic areas, and hosts concerts & public art. Established in 1970 the Living Desert Zoo and Gardens by several trustees of the Palm Springs Desert Museum, they foresaw the impact that resort development would have on their local desert ecosystem. and over the past five decades, The Living Desert has evolved and focused on preserving, conserving, and interpreting the desert and all its varied plant and animal life.
The City of Palm Desert and the surrounding area have many activities and cultural treasures in store for visitors. There are a variety of hiking trails for every skill level in Palm Desert. From the Bump n’ Grind to Palm Desert Cross, and Art Smith Trailhead, there is no shortage of trails to explore. Take a camper van rental and head up the Palms to Pines Scenic Byway to Idyllwild and spend some quality time in this quaint mountain town as a day trip or spend the night.
Spend some quality time playing a sport the desert area is known for, golfing. Desert Willow Resort is an award-winning golf resort featuring two of the best golf courses in the Coachella Valley. The Firecliff Course offers plenty of natural hazards and water features along the way while the Mountain View Course offers a more relaxing round of golf.
Desert Distilling in Palm Desert is a distillery that produces fine hand-crafted rum, American gin, and artisanal spirits. They brew all of their spirits in small batches daily with a commitment to high quality. Another place to visit is Coachella Valley Brewing Company that brews craft beers using local ingredients. You can check out the brewing process and equipment, observing the knowledge and effort of the staff. There is also a taproom that serves small bites has more than 20 types of beer available.
