The best way to experience San Francisco in a campervan rental is from the Bay. The waters that surround the city have defined and shaped San Francisco since its beginnings. Strong winds from the Bay, the cool chill, and unrelenting fog create an atmosphere quite different from the rest of California. With views of major landmarks like the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz Island, a cruise on the Bay is a popular activity.
Golden Gate Park is the place to go If you want to get out of the city without actually leaving the city. It’s the largest man-made urban park in the world, offering a refuge of nature in the midst of San Francisco’s urban sprawl. Covering an area of 1.5 square miles, the park is large enough to completely surround you with a beautiful and diverse natural environment.
Fort Funston is a popular hiking and horseback riding destination that has wind-swept views of the beach and a large network of trails. The loop trails around the fort are fairly mellow, perfect for people who want to enjoy some outdoor scenery without trekking up steep or difficult hills. If you seek more of a challenge, try hiking down some fairly strenuous trails to the beach.
