San Luis Reservoir is the fifth largest in California.
The San Luis Reservoir stores water taken from the California aqueduct to be pumped uphill into an artificial lake called O'Neill Forebay. The forebay feeds other river projects like farm irrigation and power generation for use in various areas downstream, but only when needed.
The San Luis Reservoir is a crucial part of California's water supply. It stores and distributes the state’s excess, which can be used when necessary to power downstream projects or help irrigate farms in more sparsely populated areas that depend on runoff from these natural resources for sustenance.
