Waikiki Beach is famous for Duke Kahanamoku, the father of modern surfing. Duke learned and taught people how to surf on the Waikiki break. Waikiki Beach attracts visitors from around the world with its white-sand beaches, proximity to Oahu attractions, and Diamond Head backdrop. Hanauma Bay is a very popular snorkeling beach and state-run nature preserve. The calm, shallow waters have abundant coral and sea life to enjoy. There is a short presentation before you are allowed to enter the nature preserve and only reef-safe sunscreen is allowed. There are lifeguards on-duty and get there early to avoid the crowds.
Oahu’s most visible landmark is the 761-foot-tall Diamond Head crater.
The highest point on O’ahu is the summit of Mt. Kaʻala in the Waiʻanae Range at 4,020 feet above sea level.
O’ahu enjoys a year-round average temperature of 68 to 85 degrees Fahrenheit, and the coastal rainfall averages 23 inches annually.
