From the snow-capped peak of Mauna Kea to the lush forests of Hilo, the Big Island offers you a Hawaiian experience like no other! You can go camping, fishing, chase waterfalls, relax on one of the iconic and amazing beaches, walk along one of the historic Hawaiian roads that were reserved for royalty, just to name a few.

Head down to the town of Kailua-Kona, which is on the west coast of the island. Here, you will find many interesting shops and restaurants to take in the typical island cuisine. Head on north on your way to Hilo and stop by Waipio Valley where you can still find a traditional Hawaiian village nestled between magnificent landscapes and cliffs. If you choose to walk down, you will find one of the many black sand beaches at the bottom of the valley.

As you continue your journey around the island, you can stop in the town of Hilo on the Hokala Coast, here you can get lost and explore the many dramatic waterfalls, rainforests and see the blooming vegetation found throughout this region. Next, head on down to Volcanoes National Park and explore the active lava flows still found on the Big Island. You can hike down to see the lava flows firsthand, just be sure to wear some comfortable shoes.

The Big Island is so large that you can find 11 out of the 13 climates zones in the world on this island. The only climates that are not found here are the Sahara (desert) and Arctic zones, although you can find snow at the top of Mauna Kea during the winter months.
