This resort city is popular for campervan rentals because it has a bit of everything: beaches, casinos, restaurants. and outlet malls.
We recommend renting a campervan and visiting the Absecon Lighthouse. This coastal lighthouse on the north end of Atlantic City overlooks Absecon Inlet. It's the tallest lighthouse in the state of New Jersey @ 171 feet, and the third-tallest masonry lighthouse in the country.
Few tourists visit Atlantic City without taking a walk down the iconic Boardwalk. The Atlantic City Boardwalk is four miles long, lined with restaurants, bars, shops, and nostalgic carnival-style games. It also connects many of the major Atlantic City hotels and casinos.
The famous roadside attraction Lucy the Elephant was built in 1881. That makes her older than both the Eiffel Tower, built in 1887 and the Statue of Liberty, which was completed in 1886.
Atlantic City was the real-life inspiration for the layout of the board game Monopoly.
The first Miss America pageant was held in September of 1920. It was an effort to draw more tourists in after Labor Day.
